| High strength is achieved as a result of both surface layers being positively connected to the dowel. The fittings can be installed just minutes after inserting the dowel into the honeycomb board. |

| Dowels with a special thread have been developed specifically for mounting hardware on honeycomb boards with a surface layer of at least 4 mm. |

Furniture built from frameless honeycomb board requires special hardware to provide adequate strength despite the cavity within the honeycomb board.
To enable thin surface honeycomb board to be used, Hettich has developed a two-part glued dowel. A measured quantity of glue is applied to both the upper and lower surfaces of the honeycomb board through internal channels. This new techology ensures a high level of strength between the fitting and board.
Glued dowel technology offers a number of advantages, including the ability to use current fittings in unmodified form. Additionally, the freely positionable glued dowels can be employed to increase strength where it is needed in the honeycomb board. Variances of up to two millimeters can be conmpensated for due to the produces high process stability.
Glued dowel technology makes it is possible to construct all types of furniture from any gauge of honeycomb board.
The new EGGER EUROLIGHT® lightweight board contributes to this.
Egger sees itself as the world's first wood material manufacturer to start industrial-scale production of lightweight board with thin surface layers and honeycomb core in large 5,610 x 2,070 mm format. Beginning in September 2006, Egger will produce1,000 m³ of lightweight board daily offering distinct advantages to users in the furniture industry and trades. The facilities used will make it possible to produce board in gauges ranging from 15 to 100 mm. The application of a melamine resin coating to surface layer thicknesses of 4 mm and over is also new.
Using Hettich's innovative glued dowel for securing hardware, the frameless EGGER EUROLIGHT® lightweight board harnesses all its advantages. In furniture production, these include an efficient use of raw materials, optimized energy efficiency as well as benefits in logistics, assembly and shipment. The mass production of frameless honeycomb board coupled with intelligent hardware technology is set to bring new momentum to furniture design.
